Seattle Game Day Veteran Explorer

gamedayIf you plan on playing in the Magic: the Gathering Aether Revolt Game Day (or any in-person event for that matter) it’s not always as easy to find out when to play at your local game store (LGS).  You could rely on knowing two other players to help you out.

1) Know a Regular

This player spends their Fridays, Saturdays, and sometime Tuesday at the same store, they know everything going on there.  Their tournament organizer is their Facebook friend and is a snapchat away.  They’ll know when their game day starts.  If you have a couple of places to play you’ll have to more than one regular.

2) Know an Explorer

This player navigates every local game store’s web site,  Facebook page,  Twitter feed,  Wizards locator, or dry-erase white board.  Knowing this player is great, assuming you like the same style of magic they do – pptq grinder, frontier, legacy, EDH highlander frontier, or the similar.   Unfortunately there are not many Game Day explorer’s so this one may be harder to find, except, of course, if you know about arczap.com MTG Events.

ArcZap MTG Events is like a Veteran Explorer – both an explorer and a regular – that you can trust to find you events that meet your schedule and location.

We have two features to walk you through today.

Hot Search

In our article Tap This! Searchable MTG Events we walk you through the basics of using MTG Events search engine. One additional new feature we’ve added to MTG Events is the hot search button, which searches automagically to whatever is the current set of events of interest- as of today, the Aether Revolt game day events.  This will change week to week.  You can find it in the menu on the left.

hotsearchgdaer

To use it, just go to arczap.com/MTGEvents  and click the button and all the Seattle area game day events will be shown to you.

Store Front

The main MTG Events page shows all the stores and all the events – which you can further narrow down with our handy filters by store, tags, radius, or key words.  But our second new feature we are announcing is a dedicated page for each store that we have events.  You can bookmark these pages and have at a glance every Magic: the Gathering event for that store without filtering or searching or knowing a regular.  For example, here is Shane’s store front page.

storefront

It shows the store, it’s address, phone number, map, and calendar.  One really nice feature is the ‘open map directions’ button which uses google maps to give you an immediate directions and traffic from your current location to see if you can make it on time.

There are three ways to access the store front page for the store you are looking for.

1) On the main MTG Events page, in the ‘Filter by store’ area click the store name.

2) In event details click the store name

3) Go directly – bookmark it.

Each store has a unique url on ArcZap, they all exist under the /store area.  For example, Shane’s direct link is:  https://arczap.com/store/ShanesBigLeague

Here are direct links for all the Seattle area store front pages holding Aether Revolt game day events.

Tap This! Searchable MTG Events

I am proud to announce our newest event platform ArcZap MtG Events

mcalendar

We are Seattle’s first and only searchable Magic: the Gathering event calendar.  Magic: the Gathering is a hugely popular collectible card game (over 20 Million players play it worldwide) with players wanting to play and/or compete in tournament events hosted near them. Until now, finding the location, date, time and format of events has been difficult.

Last year, for example, when I was looking for an Eldritch Moon pre-release event, I found out that one of my local game store was having 3 events on that Saturday.  Checking their web site I found the pre-registration times for their events at 11am, 12am, and 5pm.  The 11am pre-registration was sold out so I booked the 12am one, thinking that was noon, and only realized I had booked the Midnight session the day before. (Luckily, my friend pointed it out BEFORE I showed up at noon after asking which one I had booked.)

12AM = MIDNIGHT

12PM = NOON

In light of the issues surrounding this, we created the MTG Events calendar for players.  All the Magic events of all types at all the local stores, searchable, so you can find out where and when to get a great game of magic.  Let’s walk through the key features, first our calendar.

mtgevntscalendar

In the calendar view you are shown a simple calendar with Magic events within 10 miles of you (default assuming you are in the Seattle area). To see more events on a day, click the number of the day to switch to list view (on phones the list view is default).

mtgeventslistview

You can narrow you search by selecting tags.

mtgeventstagsfilter

Or pick stores.

mtgeventsstorefilter

NOTE: on phones, these options are in the menu dropdown.

You can even change the search radius or center of search with the map.  In the following example I reduced the search radius to 5 miles and searched from the middle of Tacoma.

mtgeventslocationexample

After you’ve found the event want to attend you can save the event and we’ll even remind you!

Here’s how you do this.   First choose the event to open the event details page.

mtgeventsclickingevent

This will display the event details page.

mtgeventseventdetails

Choose the save, yes, or no button.

mtgeventseventdetailssaveclick

If you haven’t registered with ArcZap before you’ll need to sign up in order to save the event. Fortunately, sign up is easy using your  Facebook account or an email address.

arczapsignup

After you are signed up and logged in, when you choose save you will get the reminder options.

mtgeventseventreminder

Pick your time frame and whether you would like an email or SMS text message reminder and choose ‘Remind Me’.  Of course, we are only helping you find the event, you’ll still need to register, pre-register, or whatever is necessary with the tournament organizer who is hosting the event.

We hope you will find our searchable MTG Events calendar useful!  We also want to know of any ways to make it more useful!  If you have any feedback, you can use our feedback bar on the bottom of our site or leave messages in the comments below.  Happing tapping and may your opening hands need no mulligans.
